Waiakea water is a Hawaiian brand of bottled water that is dedicated to giving back to the community and the Earth. The bottled water brand is in partnership with Pump Aid. Waiakea makes a donation of a week’s worth of water for every liter of their bottled water that is purchased. The goal of this partnership is to change areas that have next to no access to safe and clean drinking water.
In 2014, more than 650 million people had no access to drinking water. At the same time, more than 2 billion people do not have access to basic sanitation. That results in an extremely low quality of life and death. The partnership between Waiakea and Pump Aid has the goal to make the lives of those in need better as most of those people die from dehydration and diseases due to the lack of basic sanitation.
There are many reasons why Waiakea chose to partner up with Pump Aid. One of those reasons is that the organization has a strong focus on Malawi, which has one of the lowest water usages in the world. In Malawi, people use only 15 to 20 liters a day. As a comparison, in the US, people use more than 660 liters a day. For areas such as Malawi, having access to safe water is a matter of life or death. Lack of sanitation and dirty water makes people ill and takes more lives every single day.
So far, Waiakea has provided nearly two million people with safe drinking water, as well as basic sanitation, in different parts of Africa. In Malawi, Waiakea and Pump Aid have provided more than 4,230 pumps which have served over 487 600 people in need every day.
The impact of Waiakea and Pump Aid has changed and saved lives. The brand encourages donations and any and all help in order to make an even greater impact in the lives of all those people. The partnership will last for years.
